Fresh eggs 101: collecting, cleaning, and storing
The best part! A few habits keep backyard eggs safe.
Collect often
Gather eggs at least once a day so they stay clean and don't crack.
Clean gently
Toss cracked eggs. Brush off dirt; if you wash, use warm water rather than soaking cold.
Refrigerate
The CDC and USDA recommend refrigerating eggs and cooking them until yolks and whites are firm.
Selling eggs?
Many NH town chicken rules (Nashua, Concord, Laconia) ban selling eggs from backyard hens. Hampton allows selling eggs from your own hens. Check your town page.
